How can I bill Medi-Cal if I only have the recipients Social Security Number (SSN)?

A recipient’s eligibility can be retrieved from the Eligibility Verification System (EVS) using the recipient’s SSN. The eligibility response will provide the Benefits Identification Card (BIC) and issue date that can be used to bill Medi-Cal. Only the first nine digits of the BIC are required to bill Medi-Cal. If submitting certain claim types such as pharmacy claims in CALPOS, the date of adjudication can continue to be used instead of the issue date.
