How can i better communicate with my japanese foreign exchange student?

Sometimes the communication will be hard, but try using gestures, pictures and very importantly when teaching someone a new language or communicating with someone who is not very fluent: SPEAK CLEARLY, and a little bit SLOWER than you would with your classmates or peers. Don’t speak so slow that she will think you are making fun of her, but slowly enough so that all your words are have a small pause between them. Also, try to be very patient and kind with her, she will learn, but it might take a while for her to understand how to communicate clearly. Please be patient with her. And if necessary, repeat what you said. Once she gets the hang of things she will not only communicate easier, but she will be much more confident.
