How can I become a legal guardian for my step-daughter.?
In most states you are a legal gaurdian because you are married to her father, BUT you should get ahold of the nearest court and see if they can give you the legal info on what you can and can’t do. In my state if a parent does not see their child withing a 6 month period they forfeit their rights as a parent, if this is true in your state and you can prove she hasn’t seen her daughter in over 6 months, you shouldn’t need her consent to adopt. All you can really do is call your court district or an attorney.
