How can I become a good songwriter?
It sounds so cheezy, but the best song lyrics come from the heart. When you sit down to write a song, don’t sit down with one goal in mind or one subject in mind because then you overthink it. Just relax and start writing. About anything. About how you are feeling, how someone else is feeling, an issue you are currently worried about, anything! Or, think of a subject that you have strong opinions about, and let your opinions flow into lyrics. They don’t need to rhyme, nobody even needs to understand what you mean or what you are talking about. I think you are just trying too hard to make lyrics about specific things, but the key to songlyrics and any type of writing is just letting it flow. Don’t try to write when you aren’t feeling up to it. Don’t try to write when you aren’t in the mood. And don’t worry that your lyrics aren’t going to be good enough.
