How can i apply for my social security card?
You have to register in the SEVIS system and confirm your current address with the sponsor of your program within 3 days of your arrival. Then you have to wait 10 days before you apply for a social security card. We can provide you with directions how to get to the closest social security office. Please remember you will need to bring a photo ID, such as your passport that has been valid for longer than 1 year. If your Passport is less than 1 year old, you will need to bring your birth certificate and a copy translated into English. Otherwise, there can be major delays in processing your Social Security application. In addition, you will need to provide additional documents presenting your legal status in the country and your eligibility to apply for social security card such as J1 visa, I-94, DS2019, and a letter from your sponsor. Please inform us once you receive your social security card.
