HOW CAN I APPLY FOR AN INTERNSHIP WITH THE LEGAL AID SOCIETY?
The Legal Aid Society has Summer, and Fall and Spring semester internship opportunities for law and undergraduate students. Interns assist Legal Aid attorneys in representing individuals and families in adversarial proceedings in D.C. Superior Court and before a variety of public agencies. Law student interns are given substantial responsibility and engage in legal research and writing and extensive factual investigation of cases. Typical investigative tasks include witness interviews, home inspections, retrieving government agency files and review of documents. Undergraduate interns also assist with investigative tasks, answer Legal Aid’s intake phone line, file and copy documents in DC Superior Court and a variety of public agencies. Law student and undergraduate interns also may have opportunities to attend hearings, trials and/or administrative hearings. Summer interns are expected to work full time.
