If you live in UK,find the address of your local shelters, Cat Protection League or RSPCA and go and have a look. They have lots of cats abandoned for one reason or another. They are usually vaccinated there to avoid nasty diseases being passed to the rest of the shelter animals. The Cat Protection League will vet you to make sure you have accommodation that is suitable. Both the CPL and the RSPCA now expect donations. You can look for details on the net. They always are on the look out for good homes.Their main problem is that people tend to want kittens rather than a mature cat and these are the hardest to rehome.
