How can I add the plus sign (+) on the command line?

Press C-q first, then press the + sign. The plus key is the hotkey for the select files command. If you want to add a literal plus on to the command line you must quote it by pressing C-q first. Another common key which needs the C-q prefix is backslash “\”.
