How can I access claim status information for claims previously submitted using the legacy number if I now have to use an NPI?
BCBSMA has created a crosswalk between your legacy provider number(s) and the corresponding NPI. Claim status inquiries use this crosswalk to find claims submitted under the legacy number. The claim status inquiry will return all claims submitted under legacy numbers associated with your NPI. If the legacy number under which a claim was submitted has been terminated or is not linked to an NPI, the claim’s status will not be available. I received the following message when checking the status of my claims: “Response not possible error on submitted request data. Entity’s Blue Cross provider ID.” I used my BCBSMA legacy number. What does this mean? This message will display when the BCBSMA legacy provider number is entered in either the “requesting” or “servicing” provider number field on or after March 1, 2008. As of this date, all interactive transactions, including claim status, requires the use of NPI(s) only. BCBSMA legacy provider numbers will no longer be accepted.
