HOW can Hugh Dallas now criticise managers for shouting about referees in the papers?
They’ll just turn around and say ‘well you went public on your website’. I read what the SFA’s Head of Referee Development had to say in yesterday’s SunSport and I really just don’t understand his motives. He claimed it had been a disappointing season for referees and the mistakes that were happening shouldn’t be. That may be true but you can’t have it all ways. The SFA have said they want managers to show restraint with their comments. Craig Brown clearly wasn’t happy with John Gilmour’s offside call in the Motherwell-Rangers game last week but by the time he spoke to the media he’d regained his composure and made some restrained remarks. Going by the weekend papers, Hugh praised him for that at last Friday’s meeting with the SPL bosses. Yet Hugh’s own comments just don’t fit in with that same message. What he said certainly won’t help referee morale and it’s only going to put them under more pressure. I can hear the shouts coming from the stands this weekend. There will be stuff like
