How can Hong Kong food manufacturers make use of the Food Composition Database?
Local food companies can apply for membership by paying a HK$1,800 fee. They can search nutritional information in our online database, which will provide nutrient-retention factors of some commonly-used food ingredients. This helps ensure that they have the appropriate nutrition labels, which will in the end, avoid the need for expensive lab-testing fees. How have local food manufacturers responded to the new regulations? Some bigger manufacturers have responded quickly, but smaller companies know little about the regulation. About 40 companies have signed up with our Food Research Centre to date. We will contact as many local manufacturers as possible to explain about the new regulations and to introduce our services to them. In addition, to ensure that the reference information we provide best represents commonly-used local food materials, we accept food samples primarily from our members.
