How can foreign mutual funds trade in stocks listed on Indian stock exchanges?

Dear all, There are many international mutual funds who invest in stocks listed in other countries. For eg, mutual funds at America invest in stocks/shares of companies listed in Indian stock exchanges. I want to know can sucha mutual fund sell/purchase Indian stocks. What is the procedure? What are the regulatory requirements? What about brokers/banks/custodians required to carry out the necessary transactions? Any other such info. I would appreciate if anyone can help with this. Thanks and regards, Nirav Dadhania.
