How can findings be used by stakeholders?
|Back to Top| The enhanced SPARROW modeling and nutrient analyses advance our understanding of the spatial differences in nitrogen and phosphorus sources in the Basin and the environmental and hydrologic processes that control their ultimate transport and delivery to the Gulf. The findings have important implications for nutrient management. For example, the information can help States, Federal agencies, and other stakeholders target major sources—such as from cultivated crops, animal manure, pastureland, atmospheric deposition, and wastewater discharges—in the implementation of nutrient reduction strategies. In addition, model findings can be used to identify geographic areas, such as by sub-basins and States, where it would be most cost effective to implement such strategies, and to test and fine tune the possible effectiveness of different nutrient management options for nutrient reduction. 2. Is more than one management approach needed to control nutrient delivery to the Gulf?
