Farm fresh food in school lunches gives children the chance to make healthy choices at a time when they are developing life-long eating patterns. College food service departments have an important influence over students’ eating habits and health. For many college students, the dining hall provides the majority of their meals. Farm to school provide farm fresh salad bars and other nutritious foods, and farm to college programs provide meals consisting of vegetables and meats produced in that state, plus other locally produced items, that can improve students’ eating habits.
