How can different translations exist of the same Bible?

Among the many people who are unfamiliar with the Bible and doubt its credulity, there are two popular explanations for the different translations in circulation today. Either: A.) all translations are equally accurate because the Bible is open to interpretation anyway, or B.) all translations are equally inaccurate because they continue to read differently over the years.
