How can dandruff be treated?
Here are some suggestions on how to treat your dandruff: • At the first sign of dandruff, use a good-quality moisturizing shampoo. Dry skin is often a problem, and moisturizing shampoo may be all that is needed. • If dandruff persists after several weeks of using moisturizing shampoo, try using an over-the-counter anti-fungal shampoo such as Selsun Blue, Neutrogena T/Gel, Scalpicin, or Denorex. These shampoos are also known as tar shampoos, because one of the active ingredients is tar. If dandruff still does not improve after several weeks of using a tar shampoo, see your doctor. The doctor may prescribe a medicated lotion that can be rubbed into the scalp at night and washed out in the morning. Dandruff is often difficult to treat. If the first product you use doesn’t work, take heart. Often people must try several shampoos before finding one that controls the problem. With a little effort most cases of dandruff can be cured.
