How can churches around the world strengthen the US churches’ witness and commitment to peace?
Speaking with a common voice gives great power to the message of non-violence. If the churches of the world can speak out with that common voice to the governments and to the people of the world, then justice and peace will prevail. In the USA, there is great enthusiasm among those who are committed to working for peace and justice in our churches. We are excited about the 2004 focus as an opportunity to raise awareness in our country about the many ways in which we can work to overcome violence in our world. What do the US WCC member churches expect as a result of this year-long focus? We hope this focus will strengthen our work together and our commitment to overcome violence. We are looking not only at the violence of war, but also at the violence of the entertainment industry, particularly that found in video games, and at the systemic violence of poverty and racism.
