How can Christian Aid continue working in Afghanistan with no field staff?
Christian Aid’s commitment to working in partnership with local organisations means that the work does carry on even when our field office staff have left the country. Many of our partners also have offices in Pakistan which support their work in Afghanistan. In order to get funds to these organisations, money is transferred to banks in Pakistan, from where our partners can access it. Some food is available in Herat, which our partners will continue to distribute to those who can’t get to the market or who haven’t got the money to buy it, especially those in remote mountainous villages. Christian Aid is returning staff to the region to assist with the relief effort – one field officer has returned to Pakistan, to co-ordinate our work and that of our partners from there. Other staff are due to leave for Tajikistan and Iran as soon as visas and the like permit, in order to make preparations for programme work. 7. How can Christian Aid be sure the food will get to the people who need it?
