How can birth control pills affect a pregnancy?

Recent studies have shown that Birth control pills will not affect a baby if you take them while in early pregnancy. In the US and Europe 2-5% of women take birth control pills while not realizing they were pregnant. I took the pill for 16 weeks and still had a light period never realizing I was pregnant. My daughter was born almost 6 weeks premature by emergency induction for having no amniotic fluid around her. My doc and midwife cannot confirm if this happened because of my taking the pill while I was pregnant or if it happened for other reasons. Luckily there is nothing wrong with my daughter except she is a little small and a little delayed. Personally If I even remotely thought I was pregnant I wouldn’t take the pill until I was 100% sure. Good luck!
