How can babies be born addicted to a drug?
The mother and baby are attached through the placenta and anything the mother puts into her stomach or blood stream is directed through the baby…for norishment, antibodies, and other essentials for growth. This includes drugs. Babies in-utero can be sluggish if they are addicted to downer drugs or overly active if they are on uppers. It might affect them so much that they have a ‘buzz’. They can be brain damaged, physically damaged, and emotionally damaged from this use. Like I said at the top, the mother and baby are connected through the placenta and umbilical cord, everything in the mother’s body goes through the baby, from advil for a headache, broccoli for dinner, and iv drugs shot up to get high. If someone is using drugs in pregnancy, addictive drugs (let me say that the only non-addictive drug out there is marijuana, but it can still damage the baby) will make the baby addicted.
