How can an Operating System protect itself from harmful/illegal accesses?

0

An O/S protects itself from harmful and/or illegal access by not allowing user programs to do I/O directly but requiring them to via system calls. These system calls execute in kernel mode and thus prevent any illegal access by user programs. (see question 3.3.1).
