Individual teachers are critical to the reduction of the achievement gap. Individual teachers are the ones who have direct, daily contact with students. There are changes in teacher beliefs and practices that will increase the success for all students. However, the elimination of the achievement gap will also require changes in systems. One without the other will not produce lasting change. Teachers are a product of a faulty system – one that has contributed to the achievement gap.
