How can an igneous rock become a sedimentary rock?

0

Igneous rock has to go through a few steps before it becomes sedimentary rock. First, the igneous rock must be weathered and eroded into smaller particles that are transported by wind, glacier, or water to a resting place where additional sediments of any variety of rock particles accumulate in layers. With the addition of more and more layers, water between the rock particles is squeezed out and replaced by minerals which crystallize, cementing the particles together. This process is called lithification. The particles along with the cementing mineral are now sedimentary rock.
