I am an American visiting Paris, and due to a miscalculation in packing my medications, I just discovered that I am going to run out of a certain prescription medication one day early. It’s a very important medication that can’t be skipped. How can an American citizen with an American doctor get a prescription refilled here in France? A: My father was in France on holiday and lost his medicine (my mother’s handbag was stolen) and he took a open prescription and the packaging/instructions of the medicine with them on holiday (not in the handbag fortunately). With this, he was able to obtain a new refill. However, if you do not have an open prescription, then the pharmacist may well refuse to give you the medicine if it is also prescription-only in France.
