How can a young man know if Christ is calling him to priesthood in the Legion?
Vocational discernment ordinarily takes place in an atmosphere of prayer and attentive listening to the Holy Spirit’s voice in the conscience. Frequent reception of the sacraments, a commitment to the apostolate at the service of others, and sincere openness to the will of God are also very important. The guidance of an experienced spiritual director is extremely helpful for the discernment process as well. If a young man thinks that God may be calling him to be a Legionary priest, he should follow Christ’s advice to his first disciples: “Come and see.” He should try to get to know the congregation or a Legionary priest, and participate in retreats and vocational activities organized by the Legionaries. At some point, he should also attend a Legionary candidacy program. The candidacy is a period of serious vocational discernment before entering the Legionary novitiate.
