How can a student succeed in general chemistry?
These are responses from students who were completing the general chemistry sequence (Chem 105/106) several years ago: Do the reading assignments, questions, and CSB when assigned. Look them over before the exams. It’s nothing like high school. You need to read your notes daily. Come to class with at least part of the material read. Don’t slack off at the beginning because you won’t be able to catch up later. Attendance is crucial. Although there is no attendance policy, if you miss a day you will be lost. Even if you get the notes, the explanation given in class over them is definitely a plus. Also, when studying for the exam, understand the concepts behind the problems. Don’t just memorize how the problem was worked. Understand why it was worked like that. Find people in the class and make a study group. Make use of the course website.
