If you have air vents in your floor, simply pull out one of the registers and look at the flooring. You should have a floor on top of a subfloor. If the floor on top is one solid piece almost an inch thick, then you have solid hardwood. If, however, the top floor looks like thin layers pressed together or just a thin board by itself, then you have either a laminate or engineered floor. If your air vents are located in the ceiling, you may not be able to tell. If your house is on a concrete slab and the hardwood is glued directly to the slab, the chances are good that it is either a laminate or engineered floor.
