How can a good God create evil?
God is neither evil nor did He create evil. Man brought evil upon himself by selfishly choosing his own way apart from God’s way. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they chose that which “was pleasant to the eyes” and “to be desired” (GENESIS 3:6). By their choice they brought evil into the world. By our own choice we also bring evil into our lives. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (ROMANS 3:23). If God had created us as robots, He could have programmed us to do only good. But that would have meant that we wouldn’t have a free will. Without free choice, love is impossible. God had created a perfect world without evil in the beginning. “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good” (GENESIS 1:31). Likewise, in the New Jerusalem there will be “no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain” (REVELATION 21:4).
