How Can A Doctor Determine If A Hernia or a Damaged LES is Causing Reflux?
Your doctor will perform a physical exam, talk with you about your symptoms, gather other information from your patient questionnaire and perform a series of medical test to determine what is causing the problem. These test would include: an esophageal manometry, esophageal endoscopy, diagnostic ultrasound, and barium upper GI test to provide him/her with additional information about how well your esophagus is functioning and how you are digesting foods.
