How bright are the bulbs?
Each bulb puts out an estimated 12,000 lumens. This is further amplified by the fact that the High Intensity Discharge bulbs are placed below the surface of the water. Instead of the glare reflecting off the top surface as in conventional above water systems, the light is reflected from underneath, back into the water. This has the added benefit of creating a mirror effect from below, essentially blinding the fish to your presence.
