Dow Chemical and Monsanto were the two largest producers of Agent Orange for the U.S. military. From 1961 to 1971, Agent Orange was by far the most widely used of the so-called “Rainbow Herbicides” employed in the Herbicidal Warfare program (vietnam war). According to Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 4.8 million Vietnamese people were exposed to Agent Orange, resulting in 400,000 deaths and disabilities, and 500,000 children born with birth defects. Aspartame was discovered in 1965 by James M. Schlatter, a chemist working for G.D. Searle & Company. Monsanto developed and patented the glyphosate molecule in the 1970s, and marketed Roundup from 1973. Donald Rumsfeld followed Searle as CEO, and then as President of Searle between 1977 and 1985. Diet Coke was sweetened with aspartame after the sweetener became available in the United States in 1983. In 1985, Monsanto bought G.D.
