How big will my pig nosed turtle grow?
First of all, if you really had a Fly River Turtle (I hate the name Pig-nosed turtle, so undignified), you would already know the answer. This is not a turtle you can just purchase on a whim at the local pet shop. Hatchlings are very rarely available, and when they are, they cost nearly a thousand dollars apiece. Juveniles and adults cost several times that amount. Reptiles do not stay small if kept in a small tank. If a turtle stays small, it’s because there is something very, very wrong with it. Fly River Turtles are large, reaching lengths of over 22 inches, and require very large (300+ gallons) heated aquaria. Only experts with plenty of resources are qualified to keep this species.
