How big should a partition be?
Big enough to hold what it needs to hold. Things to considering in choosing a size include, but are not limited to: • Total available space • Operating system space required • Number of operating systems required • Operating system partition size limitations • Operating system partition location limitations • Application software installation space required • Size and number of data files needed or expected • Backup media space • Backup & restore strategy • Relative user comfort in managing multiple partitions and backups • Feasibility of adding space via additional devices if space required increases • Support available for particular partition types when booted to alternative operating systems • Desirability of segregating different file types (e.g. OS vs. software vs. data, or static vs.
