How big of a commission does an art gallery get for selling a painting on exhibit there?

I’ve owned a gallery and sold plenty of paintings and art. Usually the percentage the gallery takes on a sale is 50%. Depending on the arrangements made with the artist this can be adjusted to 40/60 gallery/artist or whatever is agreeable. Consider the 50/50 to be the most common though. Good luck with your art!
