The historic county of Wiltshire covers 371,101 hectares and is divided for administrative purposes into two areas; Wiltshire County Council – 348,070 hectares Swindon Borough Council – 23,031 hectares The administrative division was created under local government re-organization in 1997, prior to this there had been no major change to boundaries since c.900 A.D. or earlier.
