How big is the sector?
Construction is a huge sector, encompassing surveying, architecture and building services as well as civil and structural engineering. Every year the construction industry has career opportunities for around 88,000 people, enough to fill a football stadium. The biggest client in this country is the government, with the department of health alone spending £2.7 billion a year. There are huge projects worth millions of pounds, as well as smaller projects on which you can have a more personal impact.
