Not only are the general levels of imports of the affected products reported as low, except for honey, but there are restrictions already in place on foods that can be imported from China to the EU. Only products approved by the EC may be imported into the EU/UK. Unless there is EU approval, products cannot be legally imported into the EU/UK from China. Neither beef, lamb, nor pork have EU approval. Other food such as fruit and vegetable products are not involved either: only foodstuffs of animal origin are affected by the ban. In addition, the suspension does not apply to fish caught, frozen and packaged in their final packaging at sea and landed directly on EU territory.
