How big is Chinas Armed Forces?
In reality, they are actually the 3rd largest military in the world. Their military is unified, meaning that they don’t have different departments like the US Armed Forces operate. Is it called the People’s Liberation Army with all their sea, air and land components combined. Currently they have around 7-million members with 2.26-million as in Active status; which ranks 1st in the world in number of active members. They don’t have a draft, obviously they have their great numbers as it is. And contrary to the belief, the PLA is entirely volunteered. Again, their substantially large portion lacks the need for mandatory conscription. The PLA is comprised of the Ground Force, Navy, Air Force, Artillery Corps (a ballistic and strategic missile force) and the PLA Reserves. The PLA is under the Central Military Commission, similar to the US Department of Defense.
