How Big An Area Does The Bronx Zoo Cover?
Bronz Zoo is situated in Bronx Park, New York, USA and at 265 acres it is the largest urban zoo in the country. The Bronx Zoo dates from 1895 (officially opening in 1899) and was a trend setter of its day, with animals able to live not in cages but in an environment which closely resembled its own natural habitat. Today the zoo has between 4,000-6,000 animals and due to its size there is a Zoo Shuttle and Bengali Express Monorail system to help get people around. It has cafes and refreshment areas and is a smoke free, roller skate and skateboard free zone ! The zoo is operated by the Wildlife COnservation Society and is dedicated to conserving wildlife. It even has its own rainforest, covering 6.5 acres, to help animals native to rainforests to breed within an eco-system tailored to their needs.
