A37. The use of modeling and simulation was critical to the design of the ship. One example is its use in the design of the ship’s well deck. The Design Team considered many potential load out scenarios to ensure greater capacity and accommodation of current and future equipment. In one scenario, designers modeled a Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) truck moving from a pier through the deployable sideport ramp to stowage areas and into the well deck to ensure it would fit. In other sessions, Fleet personnel viewed 3D models of anthropomorphic 5% and 95% “electronic males and females” moving and using the spaces. Consequently, designers removed potential impediments to personnel movement and ensured sufficient space between bunks in berthing areas.
