how beneficial is the Damage Waiver insurance offered by Rental Car Companies?
The rate you pay for DW is incredibly expensive, often $15 or so per day! You can get rental coverage through your regular car insurance for much less. Call your insurance agent. Also, credit cards, e.g. American Express, will sometimes cover you in a rental, if you pay with that card. Call your credit card companies. Don’t forget, if you are renting a car for work, your employer’s insurance will usually cover any accidents in a rental. I’ve rented cars plenty of times, and the only mishap was a hubcap which came off. Rather than fight the system, and because I had time, I bought a used hubcap to replace the missing one–$20 total.
