Fossil Fuels are: coal, oil, and natural gas. Fossil Fuel use, especially at the unprecedented current global use, but particularly by the U.S., represents three highly significant problems: 1) contributing significantly to greenhouse gases (mainly carbon dioxide, but also methane, and some nitrous oxide); 2) our dependence on foreign oil, especially in the Middle East a major security threat and the reason for our war with Iraq, when we should have been concentrating on Al Quada and bin Laden; 3) fossil fuels are a finite resource that not only take at least tens of millions (if not several hundred million) of years to develop, but the environmental conditions have to be rather specific.
