How badass are ar-15s and are they legal in California?
AR-15’s are a lot of fun because they are so modular and can be upgraded and customized to each individual shooter. Also, there are tons of spare parts out there, meaning that repairs are cheap and easy. However, their legality in California is very fragile. In their normal configuration, they are illegal, but many manufacturers make “California legal” versions. Among the changes that make them legal are fixed muzzle breaks and a non detachable 10 round fixed internal magazine. The only way to reload it is to disassemble the weapon with the rear takedown pin and load them one at a time through the top of the internal magazine. In short, they just welded a 10 round magazine into the magazine well. Also, the buttstock on California compliant AR-15’s sometimes have either the normal A2 buttstock, or a fixed non-telescopic buttstock that only resembles the M4 buttstock, but that cannot actually move. However that is not a requirement. It won’t be long though before even this will be illega
California Legal ARs are the current legal ar 15’s. State law states that a semi auto firearm with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine well is an assault weapon and is therefore illegal. Now if you get ride of the pistol grip or buy an ar-15 with an internal magazine well, you’re okay. If you owned a regular ar-15 before the ban, then you are allowed to keep it. Some ranges allow you to use 30 round mags and load more than 10 rounds into them as well. My buddies and I shoot the kel tec su 16 rifle that can take m-16 mags (we were issued them from our unit.) But yeah on most situation and on ranges the 10 round rule applies.
They are absolute badass! But no, they are not legal in California as they were banned in the assault rifle ban! Stupid Commiefornia..! I think in AZ theyre gun laws are like 2 pages worth, california its over 25… really tells ya something. But AZ is the most relaxed state on guns. You can open carry without a permit. You can walk into a store and buy a gun and walk out with it the same day where in California you may have to wait over a week. You can only buy one handgun a month in Ca but can buy as many as you want in AZ. Ca is all **** on gun laws. Take the guns away from the law abiding citizens while the criminals run around with them. Youll be lucky to own a Pea Shooter pretty soon with the way things are going and how Obama wants to deal away with semi automatic pistols ect..
move question to laws and ethics. yes they are bad *** but a .50 cal m2 HB machine Gun is far more fun. Actually, there are certain AR-15 rifles that are LEGAL. In 2001, a California Supreme Court Decision (Harrott vs. County of Kings) clarified that SB23 could not ban AR15/AK47s by series, but must ban them by specific make and model number. The CA DOJ used as a reference the Kasler List which specified which firearms were banned. The CA DOJ admitted in 2005 that the Harrott decision was law and that receivers not listed specifically by make and model number in the Kasler List were legal to possess. Further in September 2006, Attorney General Bill Lockyer clearly laid out the legality of these receivers in a letter to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as he wrote in support of AB2728. AB2728 passed and became law on January 1, 2007 and the Attorney General no longer has the ability to list AR15/AK47 Series firearms as assault weapons.
