How bad is the ortega fire burning in Cleveland National Forest?
Firefighters have gained full control of a wildfire in the Cleveland National Forest in Orange County. The vegetation blaze, dubbed the “Ortega Fire,” erupted around midnight near mile marker14 of Ortega Highway, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Greg McKeown. Nearly100 firefighters battled the flames, which were burning through a steep canyon area south of Ortega Highway. Helicopter crews joined the fight at daybreak. The fire burned some 25 acres and is 100 percent contained. No homes were threatened by the blaze. A woman that was part of a prison firefighting group fell down a steep hill and fractured her leg, according to officials. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.
