How bad is the hazing?
Hazing is against MIT policy and against the rules of every national sorority. And although it sounds unbelievable, the sororities actually follow this rule at MIT. You will never be asked to do anything that you are not comfortable doing. We believe that there are more constructive ways to build spirit and character.
The stereotypes I know are that KA is southern, Beta (Theta Pi) guys tend to smoke pot a lot, and AEPi is mostly Jewish. I can’t confirm the Beta one but the others are pretty true. I think Zeta Beta Tau is cool because they don’t have pledging, and despite the no hazing policy, fraternities definitely haze during pledging. APES definitely has a stereotype…I don’t know how to put it, cocky maybe? If this hasn’t been explained, most fraternities get kicked off campus at one point or another, and when AEPi was kicked off, APES spun off from it. It’s not officially recognized, so I don’t think they can do some of the Greek activities, but they rush and have letter shirts and parties. Just remember, there was once a liberal New Yorker in KA, so anything is possible.
