How bad is Mild Depression?
If you are talking about chronic mild depression, the fancy medical term is dysthymia. It’s hard for me to rate it on a 1-10 scale. Yes, I suggest your mate have at least a consultation with a therapist to get a professional opinion on what his situation is. (I will say “his” so I don’t have to write “his or her” all the time.) Sometimes people live in a “gray zone” where they are rarely happy or excited about life, yet not really depressed either. One problem is that some people will start to think this gray zone is “normal” (whatever normal is). So if your mate overcomes his dysthymia, he might say “Wow, I never realized life could be so much better.” So a consultation would be a good place to start. I would avoid any psychiatric meds since they don’t sound like they are necessary at this time. Without going into detail, alternative medicine has loads of valuable ways to improve one’s moods. Besides therapy, some folks are helped by such things as: exercise, relaxation or meditation
