How are wooden roller coasters preserved in the winter?
Actually since wooden coasters are exposed to the hot sun and to the cold winters, they are slowly rotting no matter what. But have no worries, the lumber for wooden coasters is pressure treated. Pressure treating is a process that forces a chemical preservative deep into the wood. The wood product is placed into a cylindrical holding tank, and the tank is depressurized to remove all air. The tank is then filled with the preservative under high pressure, forcing it deeply into the wood. This process gives the wood about 20yrs before it starts rotting. I’m sure there is more to it than pressure treating, though. Wooden coasters always are needing maintenance, in the morning, during the day, at night, during the off season, etc. Wood is replaced very often making sure it is extremely safe, that way the coaster can be around for a very long time for everyone to enjoy.
