How are wood pellets better for the environment?
Burning wood pellets emits a lower dose of carbon dioxide than the burning of fossil fuels. The CO2 that is released when a pellet is burned is the same as the CO2 that was already absorbed by the tree during its growth. Pellets burn very clean, emitting little ash, which means that burning wood pellets will contribute to greenhouse gases far less than using oil. As mentioned in the answer above, wood pellets usually travel shorter distances from their distribution centers, which create less pollution from delivery sources. Most importantly, wood pellets are a renewable energy source.
