How are water and sewer rates calculated?
Water and sewer rates are reviewed annually be department staff, the Township Water and Sewer Commission and the Township Board of Trustees. Rates are calculated to cover the cost of department staff wages and benefits, system operations and maintenance, operating supplies, utilities, equipment operation and maintenance, capital improvements to the systems and the cost to purchase water from DWSD and the treatment of wastewater at one of the four wastewater treatments plants that serve Van Buren Township.
