How are Vocal Nodules Formed?
Whenever we are using our voice, the vocal cords open and close to allow air to enter from the lungs and produce sound. When there is some irritation in the vocal cord, one or both the cords enlarge. This condition of enlarged cords is know as a nodule. As a result of the enlargement, the opening and closing of the vocal cord does not take place normally, the conversion of air into audible words gets affected and the vocal nodules symptoms start showing up. There are several causes that lead to irritation of vocal cord. It can happen due to excessive shouting, screaming or coughing. Singing for a long time, allergic reactions in the throat, heartburn and stress are some of the other causes of vocal nodules.
